Adoption – Teenhood – Mental Health (ATM)
Incredibly excited to introduce an in-depth year-long program for adoptive parents of teens in high school who struggle with mental health issues. To begin this fall. Support, guidance, information and insight with those who are struggling in similar ways. It will only be offered once a year.

I was happy to participate in the April Book Group for Adoptive Parents with Katie Naftzger. After reading Katie’s book “Parenting in the Eye of the Storm” last year, I had wanted to reach out to her in some way to go a bit deeper than the book did, especially when applying the information to our family circumstances. Group interaction in the meetings resulted in discussion of aspects of the adopted teen’s experience common to all of the parents, which lead to more clarity in terms of addressing different situations. I found Katie to be very approachable and easy to share with. Her experience through years of exposure to the issues adopted teens face, is very evident. Thank you Katie!
Adoptive parent in secret April Facebook group
I connected with a virtual group led by Katie during a very tumultuous period with my daughter. There was great comfort in realizing that other adoptive parents share the same concerns and fears. Katie has a great talent for including everyone in the discussion, and giving solid suggestions for moving forward.”

Register for the MAY Secret Facebook Group for Adoptive Parents of Teens
In April, we had a wonderful collection of adoptive parents and talked about the four tasks of parenting adopted teens – unrescuing, setting adoption-sensitive limits, having connecting conversations and envisioning the future. along with special topics such as mental health, school and breakthrough moments.
When we got to the end of the month, we had logged over ten hours of information, insight and discussion. And, there was still so much more to talk about!
We are officially opening up the group for registration for May, We’ll have four Tuesdays from 10:30-11:30 am EST, plus new special topics which may include the good adoptee, more mental health and self-esteem.
We’d love to have you!

How do I access the group after I register?
I will invite you to the secret Facebook group via e-mail.
Will I be able to access the April material?
Yes! And, all of the discussions.
How does this group differ from all of the free adoptive Facebook groups I’m in?
This is truly a parent group, online. I’ll be offering two Live sessions per week which you can participate in via chat and will address questions/comments during the week.
If I join, how will I be expected to participate in the group?
I invite group members to listen and participate in my Facebook Live sessions via chat, ask questions throughout the week. Or, if you prefer to be a silent participant, that’s perfectly fine, too!
Can I join even if my children are younger or young adults?
Absolutely. The material is incredibly useful in parenting adoptees of a range of ages. Parents of younger children find it beneficial to apply the material but also to look ahead and parents of colleges students find that the “teen” themes are still alive and well!
Should I read your book before the group starts?
It’s not required, but highly recommended!
How many people are in the group?
Varies, but may have anywhere from 10 – 20 parents. It gives us the opportunity to learn more about one another and fosters a sense of community.
